Q: What is biomass?
A: Biomass is the solid leftovers from agriculture and forestry product processing, as well as organic residues from some industrial applications. Examples include straw, corn stalks, arbor trimmings, sawdust and wood pallets.

Q: Why use biomass?
A: In many cases, biomass sources offer clean, renewable alternatives to other solid fuel sources. Biomass is often readily available in relatively large quantities.

Q: Why exchange biomass?
A: There are people who are looking for outlets for their biomass materials and people seeking biomass supplies. This site is intended to bring those people together for mutual benefit.

Q: What are some uses for biomass?
A: Biomass can be used as a fuel source to generate heat or electricity. It is also utilized as a source for fiber. Components of some biomass sources can also be extracted as higher value ingredients.

Q: Is there a charge for items listed on the Web page?
A: There is no fee to use the program. Contact the biomass supplier directly to discuss the costs for purchase and/or transportation of their product.

Q: What types of biomass can be listed?
A: Any biomass source that fits into the four categories (ag crops, ag residues, wood crops, wood residues) and is not mixed with non-biomass materials (construction waste for example).

Q: How long will my listing stay up?

A: One-time listings stay up for 60 days, or until you remove them, whichever is shorter. Reoccurring listings, such as seasonal, monthly, etc., listings stay up until you remove them.

Q: Why register?
A: Anyone can view the Biomass Exchange listings without registering. In order to list a biomass item or view the contact information of a biomass supplier we ask users to register so that we can potentially survey exchange users to measure successful exchanges, improve the website, and keep biomass supplier contact information confidential except for registered users.

Q: Can you pick up my item?
A: We don't store or transport items - exchanges are made directly between parties.

Q: Can I take a tax-deduction for my donation?
A: If you donate your biomass supply to a non-profit organization, educational institutions, religious institutions, etc it may be tax deductible. Consult with your tax advisor.

Q: Can individuals use this service?
A: Most biomass supplies are likely for institutional, commercial, or industrial purposes but it does not preclude individuals for using the exchange to find or list biomass supplies in any amount, most likely for home heating purposes.

Q: How do I add a listing?

A: You must register, then click on the "add a listing" page.

Q: How do I remove my listing from the Web page?
